Everything That Is New in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 enters 2027 with a complete redesign and some of the most significant mechanical, technological and styling changes the full-size pickup has received in years.

There are new 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines, a more powerful TurboMax engine, a redesigned exterior, a substantially more digital interior and a reorganized seven-trim lineup. The off-road models have also evolved, while the High Country introduces new premium features at the opposite end of the range.

For anyone considering Chevrolet’s latest full-size pickup, here is a complete look at what is new in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

A New Generation Means a New Exterior

The Silverado’s appearance changes substantially for 2027.

The new front end is more upright and incorporates redesigned LED headlights, a bolder grille and stronger visual detailing around the wheel openings and rocker panels. The rear has also been modernized with new LED taillights.

Starting with the Custom trim, dual exhaust outlets are standard.

Perhaps more importantly, Chevrolet has worked to give the different Silverado versions stronger individual identities. A High Country has a distinctly premium appearance, while the Trail Boss and ZR2 models emphasize their additional off-road capability visually as well as mechanically.

Four Engines, With Major Changes to Three of Them

The Silverado continues to offer four engines, but the lineup changes considerably:

Engine Power Torque Max. Towing
2.7L TurboMax 350 hp 455 lb-ft 4,264 kg (9,400 lb)
3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel 305 hp 495 lb-ft 5,443 kg (12,000 lb)
5.7L V8 402 hp 428 lb-ft 6,214 kg (13,700 lb)
6.6L V8 481 hp 501 lb-ft 4,400 kg (9,700 lb)

The TurboMax now develops 350 hp while maintaining its 455 lb-ft of torque. It is also paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for 2027.

The Duramax 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel continues with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft.

The biggest news, however, is the arrival of two sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines.

A New 5.7L V8 Replaces the 5.3L

The previous 5.3L V8 is replaced by a new 5.7L V8 producing 402 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.

It becomes particularly important for buyers focused on towing because the right 5.7L configuration provides the Silverado’s maximum trailering capacity of 6,214 kg, or 13,700 lb.

That makes an interesting point about the new engine range: the biggest engine does not automatically provide the highest tow rating. Vehicle configuration, drivetrain, cab, box and equipment all affect the final capacity.

The New 6.6L V8 Delivers 481 Horsepower

At the top of the gasoline engine lineup is a new 6.6L V8 with 481 hp and 501 lb-ft of torque.

That makes it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its segment and gives the 2027 model the highest factory horsepower output ever offered in a Silverado 1500.

Both new V8s incorporate substantial engineering changes, including revised combustion and cooling systems, new intake designs and a fuel system combining direct and port injection.

The objective is not simply more peak power. The engines have been developed to perform across the broad operating range required of a full-size pickup, including towing, hauling and off-road use.

Every Silverado Now Gets a 10-Speed Automatic

Transmission selection becomes much simpler for 2027. Every engine is now paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, including the TurboMax.

Having additional ratios allows the transmission to keep the engine in an effective operating range under different conditions, whether accelerating from a stop, travelling at highway speeds or pulling a trailer uphill.

A Much More Digital Interior

The redesigned cabin is one of the most noticeable changes for anyone moving from the previous Silverado.

Every trim receives:

  • A 16.3-inch centre display;
  • A 12.2-inch Driver Information Centre;
  • A new dashboard layout;
  • GM’s latest pickup-truck user interface;
  • Updated materials and interior detailing.

The new interface is designed around the way truck owners actually use their vehicles. When a trailer is connected, for example, dedicated trailering information can be displayed to help monitor the truck and trailer. Available camera technology also supports tasks such as hitch alignment and off-road driving.

More Than 60 Inches of Displays in ZR2 and High Country

ZR2 and High Country go significantly further. Both add an 11.5-inch front passenger display, along with a Head-Up Display and Rear Camera Mirror. Together, the available digital surfaces exceed 60 inches.

The new front passenger display can provide entertainment and other functions without requiring the centre screen to be shared between both front occupants.

Seven Silverado Trims for 2027

The Canadian lineup is organized into seven trims: Work Truck, Custom, Z71, Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2.

One important change is the addition of Z71 as a standalone trim rather than simply an equipment package. The Z71 includes off-road equipment such as skid plates, Hill Descent Control and an off-road suspension.

Three Factory-Lifted Silverado Models

Chevrolet now offers three lifted versions directly from the factory.

The Custom Trail Boss and Trail Boss receive a 2-inch factory lift and 34-inch mud-terrain tires. The ZR2 goes further with 35-inch mud-terrain tires, its own 2-inch lift, front and rear electronic locking differentials and Multimatic DSSV dampers paired with jounce dampers.

An available ZR2 Bison Edition adds more specialized equipment including protective bumpers, rocker protection, additional skid plates and 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

High Country Becomes More Premium

The redesigned High Country takes another step toward combining full-size pickup capability with luxury-vehicle equipment.

It receives the first panoramic sunroof offered on a Silverado, along with a unique grille, standard 22-inch wheels and two available interior themes. Real wood décor, specialized seat treatments and available microfiber suede further distinguish the cabin.

A Multi-Flex centre console also provides additional storage and can create a practical work surface when the truck is parked.

New Technology Is Designed Around Towing

Available Super Cruise remains especially noteworthy because it can support compatible hands-free driving while trailering on approved roads.

The new digital interface complements that technology with trailering-specific displays. An available Hitch View can assist when aligning a trailer, while compatible mobile functionality can allow trailer-light checks to be performed from a connected phone.

The 2027 Silverado Is More Than a Styling Update

The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 changes in virtually every area that matters to a truck buyer.

Its new V8 engines provide substantially more power, the TurboMax is stronger, every engine gets a 10-speed automatic, the interior technology takes a major step forward and the differences between work, luxury and off-road versions are clearer than before.

That combination makes the redesigned Silverado a genuine new generation rather than a conventional model-year refresh.
